What is the daffodil pin for and why are managers and TV presenters wearing them in March?

VIEWERS around the country will have noticed TV presenters wearing a daffodil pin recently.

Jeff Stelling and the Soccer Saturday team are the latest to join the craze - here is all you need to know about it.

Why are TV presenters wearing a daffodil pin?

Many will recognise that daffodil as the symbol of the Welsh rugby team, who are currently top in the Six Nations.

But the Soccer Saturday team have not suddenly declared their support for Wales.

The daffodil is being worn throughout March for the Marie Curie cancer charity's Great Daffodil Appeal.

The appeal formally started under the name 'Great Daffodil Appeal' in March 2005.

But the tradition began as early as 1986 when Marie Curie volunteers would hand out daffodils in exchange for donations.

This was changed to plastic daffodils in 1995.

How do I donate to the Great Daffodil Appeal?

You can donate any amount you wish to purchase a daffodil on the official Marie Curie site on either a one-off or regular basis.

Alternatively, Marie Curie volunteers will be selling the pins up and down the country.
