Top face paint tricks for parents to turn kids into little horrors for Halloween

FOR busy parents, sorting out the kids’ Halloween costume can be a bit of a nightmare.  But with some clever face-painting tricks up your sleeve, your little ones will look ghoulishly cool.

Christine Mavromatis, of wannabee-facepainting.co.uk, demonstrates how by transforming Toby Green, eight, from Canvey Island, Essex, and Valentina Montoya, also eight, from Hounslow in West London, into little horrors.

With this easy step-by-step guide, you’re in for a  spook-tacular Halloween.

YOU NEED:  Halloween face paint kit, £13;  purple and green metallic face paint, £5.20 each; sponges, £1.80; brush set, £3.15 for set of three,  all snazaroo.co.uk.

CHRISTINA’S TOP TIPS: “Dampen the sponge slightly to create an even finish. Wet the brush for definition and test on your arm to check against drips.”

Dracula

Costume, from £12, M&S

1.Start with a white base, then sponge light grey over the eye lid, painting the grey in a wing shape to meet the hairline. Blend where the two colours meet.

2. Paint a large black V shape at the centre of the forehead and fill in. Use a “tick” shape to create eyebrows.

3. Paint the lips red and make two white triangles on either side of the mouth for teeth.

4. Outline the teeth in black and extend the mouth line downward. For a bloodthirsty finale, paint in red droplets.

Costume, £12, George at Asda (includes inflatable headpiece)

1. Sponge light green over the face then blend a darker green into and around the eye sockets

2. Create hairy eyebrows by flicking a thin paintbrush upwards. Paint a red line directly under the eye.

3. Add the scar by sweeping a thick red line across the forehead. Load the tip of a thinner brush with black paint and dab dots on either side of the red line. Connect the dots vertically with white paint to look like a stitch.
